Happy Birthday David!

It is truly a blessing and an honor to be your mother.  I am thrilled to see what a hard-working and kind man you are becoming.  Happy Birthday son.

David's Red Shirt

Some other kids from the youth group were drawing on t-shirts when David went into the church early a couple of weeks ago.  They made a shirt for him too.

 Yep.  This is David.

Have you met El Ephant?  El is David's backpack buddy that took residence in this front pocket back in December.  He got a shirt too! You will often see him listening to his tunes, ear buds in.  We are working on finding him some literature appropriate to his diminutive size.  Anyone have a mini-book about Elephants?  El heard that they are fascinating creatures.
Bye!

Being the Tooth Fairy

In most homes the tooth fairy can find a few quarters, or a dollar or two, slip it under a pillow, and call it good.........

Well not around here.

When David was little his Mom tooth fairy at the Portland house brought all kinds of fun things like books and videos etc.  Learning of this, the girls have rejected the ease of cold hard cash in favor of more valuable goods.  Of late the primary alternative to a couple of quarters has been my stash of play dough.

All of this background is so you will understand my dismay when, at 10:30 pm the night before our camping trip ( when I am up to my elbows in last minute packing and food prep) Miriam lost a tooth.  She of course came down to show me and as she scampered up the stairs I hear this demand, "I don't want money or play dough!"

My first instinct was not super maternal....  but I am such a sucker for my kids......

David was acting as my right hand packer, chopper, go-for that night so I asked if he had an extra journal left over from the batch his mom had gotten him at the beginning of the year.  Big brother saves the day!

I rounded up the ultrahold heat 'n' bond, some fabric and a glue gun

I glued the fabric around the cover of the notebook and then glued down the first and last pages to seal in the fabric edges.

A Sharpie does the rest.....  and before you know it Mim has her own journal in which to write notes and draw pictures.  Journaling was one of her favorite parts of school this year and so we are writing back and forth to each other.

She loved it!  Thank you for coming to the rescue David.  You are a great brother.

Pinwheel Clips Galore!

I just love these cute little pinwheel clips!  They are the perfect Summer accessory for every little girl.  Mine can't get enough of them so I had to add them to the shop of course.
They are hand stitched and glued with felt backing to aligator clips that even stay in Abby's fine hair.  There is a clip for nearly every skirt set in the shop and custom orders are always welcome.

Are you wondering why I have RED clips when there are no red skirts at My Sailor Girls?
You will have to wonder a little longer.

Pretty 'n' Pink Crown

I have a new crown set at my Etsy store My Sailor Girls.

Does your little girl love pink?  I mean, really love pink? Then this is the perfect dress-up or birthday crown for her and her favorite doll. The ric rack trim is so fun and the ribbon ties make both the doll and girl crowns completely adjustable, while the soft inner batting makes them comfortable on little heads.

This crown set also matches my Pretty 'n' Pink skirt set so come check it out!

Refashion Time!

Miriam loves these turquoise yoga pants.  Unfortunately they ended up with a bunch of stains and a tear in the knee.  It was time to Refashion!

Here is a close up.

Add a little Heat 'n' Bond and some left over pink knit fabric.....

Tada!  Better than ever.  She loves them, which is really all that matters.

Fast Food

I have discovered a truth.  The fact that something is ready to eat is much more important than what it is exactly that we are grabbing to eat.  If the junk is grab and go we will eat junk.  If the veggies are grab and go we will eat a whole lot more veggies.

Toward that goal I am trying to keep my fridge looking like this as much as possible.

New Fabrics for Summer!

Classic bronze stars on blue with a striking red trim make this skirt and doll dress set ready for Independence Day, or anytime.  This is a limited edition and only available while supplies last or until June 20th so don't wait to order.

Light and crisp pink cotton with bright white dots makes this set perfect for any occasion from a party to the park.

This is the fabric that started it all.  Last Summer I found this and made my very first circle skirt for Miriam.  She was spinning in the yard and Adriel said "I bet you could sell those...." and the rest is history. I am glad to have this classic back for this Summer as well.

High Efficiency

Well, the washer died.  It was one of those buzzzzzzzzzzzing, slight smell of fried wiring kind of deaths. In the end we decided it was best to get a new washer and now I have this sweet, large capacity, high efficiency baby humming away in the laundry room.

Once the washer was taken care of my guy replaced the lightbulbs in the laundry for me too.  You can't tell from these pictures, but trust me, they are BRIGHT.

Around here in Winter a lot of people break out those "Happy Lights".  Hey, it's dark and a girl has to get through to Spring somehow......  The only real trick to these fancy lights is their daylight balanced (kinda blueish) bulbs.

Guess what?  If you stick daylight balanced bulbs in your laundry room light fixture, doing the wash suddenly becomes good for your mental health. lol!!  This Winter come by; we can do some laundry and soak up the rays together :)

Fit for a Princess

And her favorite doll!

Come check out the new crowns available from My Sailor Girls.

I wanted something frilly and girly, but simple and I think we hit the mark with these classic little girl crowns.  The filmy organza ribbion ties make these totally adjustable from toddler to teen.  The doll crown was made based on American Girl doll measurements but, like the girl crown, it  can adjust to fit many sizes of doll or stuffed animal friend.

These two sets are ready to ship but others can made-to-order based on any color or theme you need.
